Ear Surgery or Otoplasty in Bangalore

Ear Surgery

Ear shape correction, also known as Otoplasty or ear surgery, is intended to improve the appearance of ears that protrude further from the head than desired. This usually is due to one or both of two main features. The conchal bowl may be too prominent and the anti-helical fold can be inadequately formed. Patients will often wear their hair in such a way to disguise these changes. Their satisfaction with the results can have life-changing effects.

What to Expect

This procedure is often performed under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation. A light general anesthetic can be used and will depend on the patient’s unique characteristics.

The incisions for ear surgery are placed in the fold behind the ear, and after complete healing has taken place, are very difficult to notice.

Ear Surgery | Post-Surgery Care

All patients are evaluated no later than the day after surgery. Postoperative care and recovery is again discussed in great detail. Care of the operative are is detailed in the written and verbal instructions. Phone calls are encouraged if there is need of clarification. There should be no heavy lifting, strenuous activity or “straining” for two more weeks. Return to work or other more specific activities should be addressed with the physician/nurse since there can be a high degree of variability in demand and a plan can often be developed to enable you to return to more normal activity faster.

In addition, otoplasty patients will wear ear protection while they sleep for approximately six weeks.

Results can be long term but can be impacted by environmental factors, trauma, patient soft tissue characteristics and the natural aging process.
